I want to make a local copy of files and folders so I have access to documents even if I am Offline.
It should be possible to SYNCHRONISE these files on my laptop (with f.i. Total Commander). Additional I wood have the possibility for previewing documents and quicker access.

Hi all iPhone users,

We have just released a new iPhone/iPad app on the appstore. You can find it by searching for Projectplace Documents. At the moment it focuses on access to your projectplace documents and seeing what happens with them. You can for example tag documents for ofline viewing. When introducing the new app we decided to withdraw the old app from the appstore. If you already have the old app installed it will keep working the same way as before. Our mobile development team are now focusing on getting the most popular features of the old app into the new one. Which is your favourite feature of the old iPhone app?

Thanks for your feedback. Every morning you get an activity report that contains information about what has happened in the project. If you go to "My Preferences" in your project and click on the tab "Reporting", you can change the setting to include "new".

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your feedback. The ability to see who has actually created the issue in Projectplace is part of the way we show history (absolute) and will not be changed for Issues as we do it this way consistently throughout the service. I have a few tips for you though to make your and your developers/suppliers lives easier.

1. Give everyone the email address to Issues (you can find it in the inbox tab). That way they can easily send in their own issues without having to log into Projectplace. If they send the issues from the email with which they normally access Projectplace, it will automatically be created by the correct member.

2. You can set up the Issues (as the Project manager) and then assign it to the correct person. Then reassign it again to the person who should be in charge. This way you can track in the history who is the originator of the issue.

Personally I favour option 1 but it is naturally up to you to find the best way for you to work with your project.

Thanks for your feedback. The tollgates will be shown in date order on the timeline so please just update the date to ensure they are shown in the correct order.

With the new Master Planning which is due to come out in 2012 there will be a lot more option for showing tollgates in your project.

As far as I know WebDAV only works over http and not https. Is projectplace over https or just http (port 80)?

I totally agree with Helgi. Not practical and add too much unnecessary admin overhead.

There are certain information we will not want to share with our vendor or even customer. I'm working in a System Integration company and we have to implement projects for customers and we commonly partner with other vendors to deliver the project.

This is a very important feature to have the ability to set different access rights for each folder or subfolders. Otherwise, the tool can only be used by internal staff and not to be shared with customers and vendors. This defeats the purpose and I don't have a very big team of PM. With each of them managing multiple projects with no administration help, it will be a nightmare for them to maintain separate project document repository.

Besides Documents, same goes to Issues Tracking. Some issues maybe for internal and not to be shared with customers or vendors. We do not want wash our dirty laundry in front of our customer or vendor right?

It will also be a nightmare for me as a PMO Head to go outside of ProjectPlace to audit the quality of projects run by my PMs and how complete is the project documentation.

I'm surprise that this is not a common request to have this feature incorporated. Maybe they are big organisation with their own document repository.

But the idea is to have everything in one place.

I don't get directed to the main menue. This is how it works for me:
I get an email. I Click on the link'display cases'. I have to login. I log on. I answer with a comment. After that I still in the same case, Now i want to work with other cases, or reed documents. How do I get to them? I't would be nice to have a icon which direct me to my projects. It's the same for this page.

Thanks for your feedback. You can get invited to give feedback on issues in all projects, whether you are a member or not. If you are a member in the project, you should be asked to log in when you click on the link. Once you have sent in your feedback you will be directed to the Issues overview tab for the project. If you are not a member in the project you will not be asked to log in and will get no further access to other issues in the project.

I hope that this explains the behaviour of your links to issues.

Hi all,

when Daniel as well as myself submitted this idea in two different threads, at least for me I can say I never expected such an enormous interest in this idea. I do not know what Daniel´s expectation was. Indeed a long time (more than 2 years) passed and indeed other ideas - not so highly rated like the Wiki idea - were implemented in the meantime. This clearly shows, that Projectplace does not only listen to its customers but also tries to realize the ideas submitted by its user base.

However, keep in mind that software development is quite a complex task. Many very good ideas exist on the one side, but on the other side there are limited development resources which need to develop those features promising the highest benefit in the market. At the end the day, the money spent on any suggested new feature needs to be earned back by additional licence revenue in the future. And exactly this is the problem. Before one specific good idea might be developed, the development costs as well as the resulting benefit for the customers needs to be evaluated. As a result of all the ideas evaluated by these two major criteria, a final prioritized development roadmap is the basis and guideline for any further develpment. This is the way it happens in any company in the world dealing with software development. The ideas submitted here in this channel are probably only one source for the final development roadmap. People submitting ideas here might be not the representative sample of the whole population of all projectplace users in the world. I guess, that many other ideas collected by the sales staff as well as ideas coming from other sources such as product management and their specific knowledge of customer needs and of course a comparison with competitive products and many other sources finally influence the development roadmapping process described above.

Knowing this, I can imagine that the wiki idea is still on the roadmap, but there are probably many other and more important ideas which need to be fulfilled earlier.

As long as I know that projectplace is still committed to the wiki idea, I am quite happy even if it will take some time until we will see a sophisticated implementation in one of the future projectplace releases.

If you have a look on one important and really heavily requested feature in the mediawiki development since years (Annotation: mediawiki is the underlying wiki software of the famous wikipedia), namely the WYSIWYG feature which has been discussed since more than 8 years now without any real results, I really have to say there are much worse examples for development delays than the projectplace example.

However, giving this as one possible explanation for the projectplace decision to postpone the wiki feature, I also have to admit that even I have some doubts since I heard that the new owners of projectplace is a financial investor. We all know what this means... There are many bad examples you might have observed since 2001... The pressure to focus on short term profits might be much higher than it was the case in the past...

Anyway, let´s hope the best and give projectplace a chance. A delay does not mean that the idea has absolutely no chance.

By the way, criticism is fine from my point of view, but everybody should be so courageous to do this using his/her real name.

I agree that this subject is taking time. We have focused quite a lot of our "new development" on the collaborative planning tools that will be coming out in the system during 2012 and that has left little room for other things in our product backlog. We are discussing this and other Document Management ideas as the next big step for us and therefore I do not want to put the status to "not right now" as this is one of the ideas that are being actively pursued.

It is unfortunate if you feel like we are not listening. 12% of the ideas here are implemented and a lot of new development comes straight from here like the apps for Android and iPad as well as the Document Manager, improved search in Issues and many other ideas (you can look through the list of implemented ideas here: http://ideas.projectplace.com/feedbacks?order=created_at.... )

I hope that you feel better listened to. If you have ideas on how we could improve on the communication with our users feel free to tell me here or by DM.

I was interested to invest in projectplace but this thread scares me to death. The original idea was placed in january 2009, PP requesting more input despite a quite straight forward and well documented functionality spec from users. Then nothing, nothing, issue is being discussed, nothing, roadmap full, again request for more input on functionality, input on what is most important. Three years have passes, many users disappointed. PP is delaying, delaying, delaying... gaining time. But not my trust! If that is the way PP is listening to its users I will not be a part of it!
