Today it is not possible to download a zip larger than 2 GB with Compress and Retrieve. Zips bigger than this from Projectplace gets truncated and corrupted.
This makes it tedious to download large folders, since you have to manually select files/folders so that the compressed file is smaller than 2 GB.
This is a problem for users who:
You are not notified of the limitation in any way, it only shows when you try to extract the file.
Data should never be corrupt. If its a limitation you should at least get a warning that you are requesting to much data.
This is a severe limitation, it would be much appreciated if it could be solved.
Yes, this is a severe limitation. I now see that also others have submitted basically the same "idea" - quotation marks since I consider this a bug rather than an idea.
If you add up all votes for the different ideas you would see that this is a much requested fix. This seems to be quite common in Projectplace ideas - dupes, which makes the number of votes on each idea quite low.

Hi Tobias and all others,
This is serious feedback and has sparked a discussion internally at Projectplace how we can solve this problem. There's a 2gb limit through our accelerator service Akamai, you can contact support to get a link to the service direct. This will still limit the download to 4gb which is a limitation in the winzip format. However, some of our developers are looking into the possibility of making the whole process easier and getting a way to move around these limitations in an easier way.
Best regards,
Karolina
I'm glad that you are discussing it. I will contact support for the direct link, this will for sure help.
Maybe you could just use the zip64 format instead? I'm not sure what environment you're in but it's supported at least in DotNetZip and IO::Compress::Zip in Perl, and also in OpenJDK according to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZIP_(file_format)#ZIP64
Any other solution that would let me download a selection of folders no matter what size in a simple way would of course be much appreciated.
Can you please verify that it is possible to download 4 GB from the direct address? I have received this link from support and I can still only download 2 GB.
Any news on this? Thanks
Hi all,
There is a development on this, an app that can help with download of bigger document structures from Projectplace. At the moment the app is rather rough and I recommend that you contact support on support@projectplace.com to get the download app if you have this problem. We can then help you get and install the app.
Best regards,
Karolina
This app is a step in the right direction and it might be a solution when it is a bit more polished. I have only tested it once and it crashed at ~75% of my project.
I would like a feature to download certain branches of the document tree and not the complete tree. It would also be nice to add a sync feature so that I don't have to download everything but just update whatever has a later change date than the local copy.
