We are in position where we would like to take an offline backup of the portfolio however the size is prohibitive (~6.9Gb) and downloading as a ZIP file often stops mid way.
Could Project Place offer a service that creates a zip/iso/other archive that would be made available through FTP for the client to download?
If there were space/security considerations, making the backup available only for a limited time period (~48-72 hours) could potentially alleviate the pressure.
Best,
Nathan
Hi Nathan,
Thanks for your feedback. I know that some of our customers with very big projects and/or very long complex folder structures have problems downloading or unzipping the files. At the moment though, we recommend to download the project in smaller increments for back up purposes.
The idea will of course still live here and we will follow the voting.
Best regards,
Karolina
Also consider WebDav access as an option to FTP access for remote access of documents as an option for backup and keeping a local copy.
There is also good support for WebDav on Mac that would simplify since there is no projecte place plug-in on that platform.
Well, its 2 1/2 years later and the idea is still alive?? I' just spent my whole weekend in making a backup - and I don't know when I will be done tonight. Splitting the document archive in 20 chunks of less then 1GByte each, keeping the directoy structure correct and keeping the file length issue in mind does not really make fun. With a download rate of ca. 300-500 KByte per second even during weekend (certainly not limited by my line) it is made sure that I have to wait long enough for each chunk for being very annoyed and short enough in order not to leave the office. Very sad.
It is not in the economic interest of projectplace to provide such a function.
The Projectplace downloader is available through support: support@projectplace.com
