Not sure I understand. If you want multiple structures (which is what we do) then create these and 'link' the documents in. That way you only have 1 instance of the document but it can appear in multiple folder structures.

Hi Joost,

Thanks for your idea. I'm a great fan of tags personally and find it a good and intuitive way of structuring data. Plus it cuts away a lot of administration and looking into complicated folder structures. I'm sure that we have users who love their folder structures as well though. Comment and vote and get your voice heard.

A spontaneous question would be if you would like to have access rights set on tag level?

This also relates to the problem where documents attached to an issue is not a project document as such.

Accessrights should be managed on document level or other objects that the tag may relate to, i.e project or issue. The tag just "manages" where a document is shown.

  • alla issues, activities, meetings and projects shold be possible tags
  • it should be possible to upload a set of tags, preferably with at least two hierachical levels, to a project (or on customer level)
  • the visualisation of a document can very well be in a folder-analogy representing the hierachical tags, and as today as an attachemnt to the issue, meeting or activity

I strongly support the use of meta data as other web-based document sharing tools as e-room, share-point etc do.
This gives a high flexibility in how to show the structure in a project, independent of any template structures, personal preferences etc.
The access-rights can be still be organised by "group-names" as one of the meta-data that should be selected.

As we are nearing "late next year", I was wondering if anything has happened to the great idea of tagging in Projectplace? Currently we structure documents by date, and to be fairly honest, it does not make much sence to other people than whoever is responsible for maintaining the document stucture. We need tagging as an alternative to the old folderstructure, please :)

Hi!
Tags/metadate is definitely not forgotten but we had to change our priorities for this year. But it is still on our radar and therefore it is still possible within next year.

The possibility to add tags/metadata is something that is planned for the 2016 road map.
