When I add documents to Projectplace, it is only possible make one structure with folders. Why not add tags/metadata instead? Some document belongs to several subjects or projects. The current way feels very '80-'90 to me. A folder is in fact a tag or metadata, but I can add no more than one per document...
thanks in advance for making it smarter,
regards,
joost
Not sure I understand. If you want multiple structures (which is what we do) then create these and 'link' the documents in. That way you only have 1 instance of the document but it can appear in multiple folder structures.
Hi Joost,
Thanks for your idea. I'm a great fan of tags personally and find it a good and intuitive way of structuring data. Plus it cuts away a lot of administration and looking into complicated folder structures. I'm sure that we have users who love their folder structures as well though. A spontaneous question would be if you would like to have access rights set on tag level?

This also relates to the problem where documents attached to an issue is not a project document as such.
Accessrights should be managed on document level or other objects that the tag may relate to, i.e project or issue. The tag just "manages" where a document is shown.

I strongly support the use of meta data as other web-based document sharing tools as e-room, share-point etc do.
This gives a high flexibility in how to show the structure in a project, independent of any template structures, personal preferences etc.
The access-rights can be still be organised by "group-names" as one of the meta-data that should be selected.
