This is a really interesting idea. I think in pictures and reading your idea I get lots of pictures in my head. "Projectplace EcoSlide, recycling your slides." =) Thanks for sharing!

I think these tools already exist! I've just been googling for them hence stumbling across this discussion!

I'm going to try out the Sharepoint Server version but there are other tools such as
slideexecutive.com
slidemanager.biz
qpresenter.com

I know this kind of pain very much... and I am a bit surprised to see that obviously some people disagree so strongly that they assign negative points... This kind of experience Mark describes here has been daily business for me since the last 12 years, especially when I used to be an employed consultant who - in parallel to the daily projectwork - needed to support the sales staff by pre sales activities... Preparing new pre sale slides by looking for already existing slides in other presentations on my laptop for reuse is a very very time consuming and painful thing... This creates enormous stress and you quickly come under strong pressure, especially when the preparation time is very short. Where is this damned slide, the one I have in mind, I know, that I have it somewhere... Once you found it, you paste it in this new presentation and.... Damned, the formatting is corrupted... Therefore I agree strongly with regard to Mark Trenchard´s requirement. Mark, three points from me, although I believe it will not help too much unfortunately...

The anonymous colleague (I was not aware that it is possible now to post anonymously here...) made a good suggestion regarding existing commercial alternatives on the one hand. The three service providers he listed here look very promising (although I have not tried their functionality so far, just checked their websites). That is exactly the kind of functionality we probably all are looking for. On the other hand, that means again another tool you need to handle and to order separate licences (once again the fight with different people in your company to convince...) The lack of integration into projectplace is the reason why I probably would not use/order these services in reality... We already need to deal with so many different tools. I am so tired to jump around dealing with many local applications on my computer, many different other SaaS applications somewhere outside my computer... not integrated at all, all with a different look and feel, partly overlapping in terms of functionality, with different user interfaces, different comfort...
If projectplace supported something like slideexecutive, slidemanager or qpresenter directly into projectplace, that would be really great...

But I guess, the clear ambition of Projectplace to offer a simple tool just contradicts to this request. That is also the reason why I am very reluctant to submit another, from my personal experience very useful, but at the same time very ambitious and (from a development perspective) very expensive idea... The enhancement of projectplace by a powerful requirement management functionality like it is the case in tools such as Polarion... I guess the decision making folks at projectplace probably would call me crazy and crucify me when I submitted this idea... :-) It would mean to change the positionning significantly and to start a very large development effort...

Best regards,

Joachim

They’re are okay if you’re an individual or a no-profit organization, but if you’re looking for a more robust Presentation Management system to use within a large company SlideBank.com is probably your best option.

While Slidebank has basic functionality SlideManager had the most robust feature set on the Market today. My company vetted 6 vendors and found duplication checker, the way they manage organizing libraries and training/services of SlideManager incomparable.
