Dear all,

At the moment we are not focusing development efforts into Tasks as this is a legacy planning product that will be replaced by the new planning tools of Timeline, Activities and Boards.

This means that we will not introduce any new functionality into Tasks.

Best regards,
Karolina

I have got the seem experience. The links in the planning are not active. We I make a link I only see a red (wring) or blue (right) arrow, marking somethning like a link. With large plannings it is a must to have active links.

Am I doing something wrong, it seems to be such a basic functionality?

you should try out our new planning tool YAP:) There's a prototype available on http://www.projectplacelabs.com. Please take a look and let us know what you think!

I checked out the YAP tool, looks good and very intuative. My posts there give my feedback. Seems it's targetted at people with a need for a quick, simple planning tool, and for that it certainly looks good. I can absolutley see where in some teams / org's this tool would be pitched just at the right level.

@ Dirk, you're not doing anything wrong, the task dependancy function is not currently supported. You have to update all those child tasks manually if the predecessor changes. Not good from a productivity point of view I think, I want my PM's managing projects, not updating tasks manually.

Still a fan of all the other functionality the tool offers. Will certainly be keeping an eye on future releases.

I've looked into Lynx (YAP is too basic to cover task dependencies and task management for more complex projects) and it could work if there is option to have also "finish-to-finish" type of dependency possible. Currently I didn't find it in Lynx (is a functionality in MS Project). This type of dependencies are also quite important as many tasks are running on conditions that task cannot be finished without another task(s) to be finished.

As I've been "suffering" already quite a long time from poore functionality of task management in Projectplace (it's mainly about not enough dependencies options and not automatic re-scheduling if one of the tasks connected to others get's re-scheduled), then I would like to ask from Karolina what should be short term solution for the users who would like to keep task plan in PP. Should I use for example MS Project for updating task plan and then every time I change something I should do this in MS project and run new import to the PP? But what happens in this case with all the comments placed to the task in PP - is there a mechanism to keep all previous comments placed to PP even if I'm importing updated task plan from MS Project? If "yes" then should I keep always task ID the same for keeping connection?

Great. Didn't notice that.

But how to work with on-going update of tasks - doing it in Lynx or MS Project I understand it requires export/import process to get updated plan into PP.

What happens with comments etc. added meanwhile into PP for specific tasks? How is Lynx or MS Project knowing how to syncronize updates with PP.

If you want to see a tighter integration of Lynx with Projectplace you should put that idea in the Lynx category here in the forum http://ideas.projectplace.com/category/103586-lynx-advanc... and get everyone you know to test Lynx, vote and comment.

At the moment there is no easy way to update this in Projectplace.

I had a look at Lynx and a short experiment with the demo.

First impressions:

  • Definitely more suited to planning complex projects
  • Would be nice to have an "Undo" button.
  • Would be nice to have a button that links multiple tasks, rather than having to manually add predecessors.
  • Couldn't find a quick way of adjusting task duration, had to use start and end dates or drag the bar. (Didn't spend that long looking for it however)
  • Couldn't find a way of showing task progress, although I can see the feild. Again - nice to have a drag / slide function on the bar of the Gannt chart to do this.
  • Task dependancies are there - great ! - would be nice if you can select task and hold then drag to another task to create a dependancy, instead of usieng the predecessor field.

If this was scheduling tool was built into PP it would suddenly become a lot more attractive as a project management tool solution for my particular programme / projects.

Dear anonymous:)

It would be great if you were to log in here at the forum (use the login link at the top of the screen or just click on the "Drop your Feedback"-button) and enter your comments in a separate thread in the Lynx category. http://ideas.projectplace.com/category/103586-lynx-advanc...

Sorry I posted the above comment as Anonymous. I've now added it to the Lynx feedback section.

Would be good to know some rough timeframes for planned roll out of Lynx, as I said this tool makes PP a contender for my needs.

No problem Andrew,

Thanks for adding it. As you know timeframes are difficult things. Everything that we put up on Projectplace Labs is basically stuff that we would really like to do and that we find exciting. Usually we put it on Labs either to get more feedback from customers or just to get a feeling that there is enough demand to get a higher prioritisation.

So if you like it the best thing you can do is to get more people excited about this and test it out. Give us your feedback and vote here at Projectplace Ideas. We do listen!
