At the moment the new (copied) folder will inherit the permissions of the folder it is pasted into.

I know! But it means that all specific access rights are lost. And this I can't understand - also because of the fact that in the template area the complete function is implemented. If I make a copy of a folder inside a template, all specific access rights of the folder and all subfolders are also copied. So your answer is not really helpful...

Hi
Apparantly, I made the opposite request yesterday. I can see your view and the need for this, but I lack some kind of warning system from PP when you do this. Can you please read my posting (see below) , and give me your view of this. You can se the reply I got from PP, I still feel that the situation gets risky allthough there is a way around it. It is too easy to create a situation that would give access to secret stuff.
Appreciate your comment

The top ideas with status Quality Backlog are discussed on a regular basis with the design team. These should be minor development, and could include hygiene factors, little things that create a wow effect and ideas that could have a positive effect on a lot of users.

Hi all,

I think both suggestions are valid because it is all about what the user expects. From my point of view security is one of the most important things which is partly why I chose to use ProjectPlace in the first place (server side encryption, backup etc.). It is of vital importance that we can trust, that users do not see information that we do not want them to see. So handling security on documents, tasks, issues etc. in all types of scenarios is very important. Otherwise I cannot use ProjectPlace for my important projects. For me it is that simple.

I find ProjectPlace to be really useful and providing functionalities that I have not found in my other collaboration tools. I just wish that ProjectPlace would also excel on functional security.

Thanks.

While we have full understanding that it is hard to get an overview of how the access rights work we feel that implementing this idea would make the system more confusing.

Currently the access rights are never included when you copy something in Projectplace. Compare with Windows. If a document is read only and you create a copy of it, the copy will NOT be read only. If you cut and past the document though the document will retain the read-only.

We are, however, in the process of working out a way for our users to get better control of the access rights in their project. This will be linked in the Business Case as input.

Meanwhile, at least warning systems would be appreciated; covering the concerns in this matter.

Hi all,

We are doing a pre-study for a better overview and a better way to set access rights in Projectplace. No new functionality is included in the scope of the project but we want to make the existing functionality easier to use. If you want to help, we would be grateful to know in which situations you are when you find the current solution frustrating. What do you think could improve it?

A new report for folder access is included in the release tonight. Read more about that and other improvements in my blog http://projectplaceideas.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/release...
