Hello,

I agree with Joachim. Today search is a common access to any information retrieval on the web. Search does not just "repair" unusable navigation. When you join a project and you need to browse it quickly a powerful search is really helpful!

Thank for following up this issue,
Emmanuel.

With too many project I sympathise with you.

Other interesting ideas could be tagging of documents, issues, meetings and tasks to make searching even easier. And cross project searching.

What do you think?

I suggest a Google Desktop Search Gadget, connected to my own Projectplace account. In this way I would have a complete transparency when searching my own disks and Projectplace. I will make that a separate suggestion though, since it is a bit separate from the search function within PP.

I fully support the need for a fulltext search engine within projectplace.
my important requirement for such a search is the correct authorization handling, so that one can only find and retrieve documents, issues,... with granted access.

tagging and rating would be nice features too

Hi Johannes,

Just to clarify, we take security very seriously and whatever search solution we use it should absolutely support whatever access rights you have set up for your project.

I'm a tag lover; have you seen that you can get rss feeds of the tags here in Projectplace Ideas? A great way to get updated on the ideas you want to keep up with:)

What would you like to be able to rate? Documents? Issues? Tasks? Meetings? Sounds like an interesting idea, how would you use it in your project?

Have fun,
Karolina

An improved search function lies highly ranked in our product backlog but we have not yet started designing what it should entail.

so, 3 years since this was first posted.. and no plans to rework the search feature?

And still you cannot search for document contents, which is the most basic thing to have. For years your development team has had time for fancy stuff, writes a blog, ports to mobile phones, but the fundamentally simple thing to search properly for a document on a tool that you are supposed to use for large project's document storage is still not there. 65 votes on this years-old entry should tell you it is important. An if "highly ranked in our product backlog" means 4 years plus development time, I wonder what happens to the end of this backlog...

We are currently in the process of rolling out an implemented version of search. This will not only search for documents but alsocards, boards, activities and other things and across all the projects that you are part of.

At this point in time we have no plans to access, read and index for search the contents of files stored at Projectplace.

What a pity. So its back to Windows file server, then. Or Sharepoint. Or any other document management solution.

Huh? Implemented? It STILL does not search the CONTENT of documents. So if you do not know the name, you are out of luck.
Please, if this "ideas" log has any sense apart from making fun of your customers, do not close this as implemented because you have done something unrelated to your search engine. Go at the feature requested, and that is simply FULL TEXT SEARCH.

Dear Anonymous,

The idea calls for "A search functionality which takes into account document attributes, coments, descriptions like it is the case in Windows Vistas search engine or in Google would be very helpful."

The new search in Projectplace includes description and comments. Like I said above we are not currently planning on reading the contents of your files for search indexing. But you are fee to use the description field for any keywords you wish to include for search purposes.

Best regards,
Karolina
