Being able to use tags in cards and other parts of our service is something that we had to set to a lower priority. Right now we don´t have any plans for this on our roadmap. However, once in a quarter we update our roadmap and then also go through Ideas to see what customers suggest and put a lot of votes on.

Hi Just and thanks for posting your idea!
Currently there is a limit of one label per card. The reason is the labels should be easily distinguishable on the card -- that's why we use colours to indicate them.
I do understand the need of being able to categorize a card in more ways than one though. We are considering introducing the ability to "tag" cards in a free-form, project-wide way so that tags already in use in the Conversations tool can be used in Boards as well, and vice versa. Tags would allow you to add any number of them and presumably be able to have a richer categorization.
What do you think about such a scenario?

I agree with this - i would need to add more labels to a specific card so that I can use the swim lanes more efficiently. To only have one type of label, with only 7 different labels is very limiting.

Like in many software systems, I would like the ability to create a new label and then select how many sub-labels (i.e. colours) I can work with.

Greetings Silvija, I think Tags are a good addition but I think "text string" distracts from the attractiveness and simplicity of pictorial execution of the Kanban Board practice. It would be a great feature if the complete card could be filled in with a primary Label Color and then additional Color Labels can be added as accumulated bands starting on the right side of the Card (similar to the single Color Band today). Regards, Brandon
