As head admin, I am responsible for all projects, but not necessarily involved or in a project. I had the issue today that I was asked to remove 3 projects, as the PM and the administrator were not available.
I couldn't simple do this through the Project Office - Project Overview. I had to be invited to the project first, then change myrole to PM/admin and then only being able to delete it. This is a big workaround for a 20sec task if I would have the rights already through the project office.
I understand the frustration! There is however an easier way. You can - in the project office - take over as head administrator of any project in the account. To do this just click on the project in the project tab of the project office. In the properties there is a drop-down menu to change head admin.
This will at least remove the get-invited-change-admin-in-the-project steps for you.
When we start looking at redoing the project tab of the project office this could be one of the things we look at implementing.
