This idea has been raised before and the team here believe in it as well.

I think it should be done so that the archived card still counts as being on the board, but it is not visible. This would mean that the counters and the Burnup Chart would still work as intended, but the card wouldn't place a unnecessary cognitive load on the users minds.

Obviously, we need to figure out a way to unarchive archived cards.

Hi Ruud!

have you seen the download board function? You can use this to save a local copy of all cards, descriptions and comments. Maybe that could be a way for you to archive?

Best regards,
Karolina

I don't want to keep them as copy, I just want them to be gone :) But I don't feel like deleting the cards.

Hi Karolina,

Currently there is an error with the dates in the download board function, there's a 2h difference between the actual dates and the dates in the excel file. Is there a place to register bugs on this forum?

Best regards
Tim

Suggestion for the archive cards function: can you make an auto-archive function in the GUI, e.g. auto-hide all the 'done' tickets after x days/weeks, with the possibility to show them again?

Hi. Just want to second the vote for the ability to "archive" cards, as well as the ability to "undo" card deletion. The desire for an archive function is a workflow issue. It's about having a one-click way to clear out your "done" column. (This is very easy in Trello). Also very much like the idea for setting an auto-archive rule. Undo for card deletion is pretty important to incorporate. Card deletion in your tool is very final, and therefore is something of an "ejector seat lever" (see Alan Cooper, "About Face") for users. A related issue is that your multiple card selection behavior is funky and not visually salient, which makes accidental mass deletion likely. As a matter of fact, I just wiped out all of the most important cards on my board because I couldn't tell which ones were selected, and couldn't bring them back because you have no undo. Hope this is helpful.

Any update on this? All of the suggested solutions have problems -- ideally, the "archive" button just serves as a "hide from board" list. The card should still be used in all reporting / analytics, it's literally just removed from the board.

One thing that has not been mentioned is that archived cards in trello remain searchable.

This is important when a board does not represent a "project", but is a collection ongoing tasks for a support team, like IT, and thus by definition has no end. In this scenario, cards will naturally pile up in the Done column. After a year or more of using the product, you may have hundreds or thousands of Done cards bogging down and cluttering up the UI. However, you can't simply delete the cards because there is a LOT of important information in them. For example, a sysadmin may encounter the same problem two years later and wonder how they solved it the first time. You need to be able to archive Done cards but keep them searchable.

Trello does this very well. It has filters, which apply to the visible, un-archived cards in the current board, and search, which applies to all cards -- including archived cards -- on all boards of which you are a member.

This is actually very important for project management and keeping the board clean. I would love to see this feature implemented :)

Archiving
I have made a board called "Archive" and it is not hidden. I have to move cards that is done here and then I move them to the done column. What I need is the possibility to set the board "Read only" enabling only administrators to change the cards.

Delete card
A deleted card shall move to the Trash can to make it possible to get it back by the admin.

If you want to hide the board we have this functionality in the sense that the board disappears from the list of active boards. The board is still available when needed if you go to Hidden boards in the menu. But everyone will still be able to access the content and edit even if hidden. To hide a board you select Hide board in the cogwheel menu.

I love projectplace but this is the feature I need most. We are a Marketing organization and our boards are "ongoing" - Right now I have 40-50 cards in the "Done" category. I don't want to download them, and I don't want to delete them. Having the ability to archive them so I still have the ability to look back and see what we've accomplished is very important.

Jira's Kanban board allows you to do this by archiving an epic. Anything that is Done/Complete is archived (with the ability to look at a list of Done items, dates, details).

This would help keep our Project Board "Clean" but also be able to view what the team has worked on.

I hope you will look into this functionality as it is becoming a burden on our project board.

My favorite solution is what you have already existing in the ProjectPlace Pro edition. Bring it to Enterprise please!
In Pro, I can mark an activity as Done, and all of those cards disappear from the board. It's intuitive, solves the problem, keeps reporting intact, and I'm lost without it. All of the workarounds mentioned here and elsewhere in the Ideas space are just that -- they're workarounds! They're not sustainable solutions.

It would be really helpful if you in the archive can have a search function for "keywords". They can even be hidden in the card, and not marked as keywords.
Over time the archive can also become too big to manage, so like we do in Microsoft outlook, a search will catch all the mails containing a certain word, please. I don't want to build a document tree to make it possible to find again in a year or 2

We currently have an archive board and we move completed cards to it as they being to build up. It is a simple work around but a push button operation would be great.

I would also prefer if this idea will be implemented. I would like to add more items.
It could be a good idea if the last row is the archived row and the last row could be hidden for a user group.
